Hot wine and Moroccan cuisine, what could be better on a dark and windy Lithuania evening. All this, you could have tasted (and tried cooking yourself!) yesterday in an opening of new Čiop Čiop (sounds as English chop chop) kitchen in Vilnius, Lithuania. Since founder Dovile is a co-working fellow from Hub Vilnius - thus me and two other Hubers, Paulius and Michael, went to support and congratulate our dear colleague.
Čiop Čiop has very innovative concept: meal ingredients are packaged and delivered together with recipe for you to try and cook yourself. You can order to home or work. Or come to one of Čiop Čiop's awesome culinary courses - Indian, American, French cosines and many more. Similar idea has only been implemented in two other countries in the world simultaneously with
Čiop Čiop project. Čiop Čiop was awarded as one of the best startups and designs of 2011 in Login awards. Čiop Čiop also participated as one of the food caterers at one the biggest festivals in Lithuania - Supynės 2011. Read more about the idea in Čiop Čiop's website
The above photo is of the actual actually ingredients we used to make Moroccan turkey and couscous dish called "tagine" (more Čiop Čiop awesome pictures of meal ingredients can be found in their Facebook page). Paulius and Michael started cutting the onions, garlic and ginger into small pieces, while I prepared the meat (rubbed in the spices etc) and heated the frying pan. We fried onions, garlic, ginger for awhile, then added meet cut in smaller pieces and saffron. Fried a bit more, added some water, olives, cut marinated lemon and left this stew to cook. While, Michael nearly burned the couscous, but the day was saved again by me :) so with lots of luck after about 30 minutes of drinking hot wine and cooking we had an amazing meal. Which was served in neat room next to the new kitchen:
To sum up experience in Čiop Čiop:
- Great food - fresh ingredients, nice recipes... Most important - cooked by yourself!
- Nice place - cool design, all the utensils and equipment needed for cooking and all this next to Vilnius city center.
- Awesome idea - haven't done before, interesting to try, good way to learn to cook, a new way to meet and get to know people.
